Where Next For 'The Walking Dead' Now That HE'S Back?
This article contains spoilers, you have been warned
The latest episode of Walking Dead – Internment – was a dark, and hopefully season-defining moment for the already deeply disturbing zombie drama. With the fever spreading to deathly consequences, two-fold given the after-life state that consumes its victims, we were wondering how things could get worse. Enter The Governor.
Rick Grimes couldn't keep these guys out for long
“We like to keep people guessing and he definitely will return this season,” Kirkman said before Internment hit AMC on November 10th. “Just when you think things are getting to a breaking point, that’s when The Governor layer will be thrown in to make things that much more deadly and dangerous. It’s going to be a really big, memorable moment in the show." (The Hollywood Reporter.)
I thought he was coming back at the end of last season’s episode, and given how predictable the show has been of late, it was a nice surprise to see it happen at least an episode later. But predictable for The Walking Dead isn’t a bad thing; a show that clearly ignores, to a large extent, a meaningful plot - relying on the visceral thrill of zombie attacks and the dystopian vision of a post-apocalyptic America to pull in views instead - doesn’t need to be hard to pin.
So are we finally going to get closure on the war that was announced way back in season 3? It’s no secret that fans were disappointed that Andrea’s death represented the apex of last year’s action for Kirkman’s creation. She was a rubbish character: difficult and annoying to watch. But while people were glad of her diminished on-screen presence, it didn’t make much of a finale.
Will Michonne go out looking for her nemisis now that he's back?
The Governor went berserk, started killing the people he tried so hard to save, but just because he made humans fight walkers and kept his zombie daughter alive, it wasn’t enough of a wrench. Now he’s back, and we can only hope the palpable tension created by his meeting with Rick, or his warehouse chase of Andrea in season 3, returns. And assuming the issue of the fever is now over, with medicine reaching the prison and the other infected meeting their makers, it’s a required tension.
