Christina Aguilera & Cee Lo Green Are Back With A Vengeance In 'The Voice' Season Opener

The quest to find America's next singing sensation is on, and we've got two familiar faces returning to the fifth season of The Voice to boot, as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green made their triumphant returns to the hit series. And now, with the show earning it's very first Emmy win, for 'Best Reality Competition,' the pressure was on for the season opener to deliver, and you better believe that it did.

Christina Aguilera
Christina was back, and arguably came away from the opening night with the best performer.

Season five's opening episode wasn't just a blast because we got to see Christina, Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton back together again, although admittedly that was pretty great, but more because the first round of acts were some of the best singers the show has ever had! Maybe it had something to do with the return of the Holy Alliance, or maybe it was to do with the night's 'Rock 'n' Roll' theme, who knows maybe the just put something in the water, but last night (23 Sept.) the blind auditions were out of this world.

Cee Lo Green
Cee Lo Green is also back, and he got first dibs on the singers.

The four reunited judges kicked off proceedings with a rendition of the oft-covered Arrows track 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll,' but once their performance was over it was time to get down to business. Green was the first judge to snag himself a would-be star, and by the end of the night it was Levine with the most performers on his team, but the really winner of the night might end up being Christina. 20-year-old college student Matthew Schuler set a Voice record by prompting the quickest turn-around from all of the judges in it's entire 5-season history. After a lengthy debate, it was Xtina who managed to snag te impressive singer. Could we have a winner already on our hands?

"It was really cool to see Christina and Cee Lo, it was just like old times seeing those two trying to win an artist over. It's amazing how quickly we all fall back into those chairs and pick up where we left off," Shelton told E! - a subsidy of the NBCUniversal corporation - following the show. Levine was also thoroughly excited, although his comments probably went a bit too far when he said, "We're like the Beatles, but better." Calm down Adam, it's only a talent contest

Adam Levine
Adam Levine got a bit carried away with his appraisal of the show.
