The Simpsons' Producers Comment On 'The Simpsons LEGO Spectacular' Episode
To celebrate the animated series' 550th episode, 'The Simpsons' are having a LEGO makeover.
'The Simpsons' will look very different on this Sunday's episode (May 4th).
The beloved animated family will be celebrating its 550th episode by getting a completely new makeover. The famous family, Springfield and the rest of the colourful characters will be going all LEGO in 'The Simpsons LEGO Spectacular.'
'The Simpsons' as LEGO pieces in Sunday's episode
This will air only months after the release of Warner Bros. Pictures 'The LEGO Movie', but according to Al Jean and Matt Selman, the animated show's executive producers, this was just a big coincidence.
"I just learned that there's a LEGO Movie," Jean joked on a conference call via Comic Book Resources. "I hope it's as good as this episode."
"I was nervous about the movie," Selman added. "Like, 'It's going to be too similar or redundant, because some of the themes are similar and they both involve sort of traveling back and forth between real world and toy world.' But watching both of them I feel that it's a complementary story to the LEGO Movie and they kind of go hand-in-hand rather than being contradictory."
The producers explained the reason behind the LEGO-themed episode was that they were just always been huge fans of the toy bricks.

"It sort of speaks from the fact that we've all loved LEGO for our whole lives, too," Selman said of the inspiration for the episode. "We've had a lifetime love affair with the LEGO toy system of LEGO bricks and we've done little LEGO jokes along the way, and we used to have a fake version of LEGO on the show called Blocko, but I think it just seemed like an amazing opportunity that LEGO would actually partner with us to make a sort of legitimate cooperative bringing together of funny little people with round yellow heads."
The 550th episode of 'The Simpsons' will air this coming Sunday (May 4th).
