CBS Stands By 'The Mentalist' - But What's The Show All About?

CBS is the latest network to make tough calls for its 2014/2015 season, picking up six new shows, scrapping one high profile comedy and standing by one of its signature dramas. The good news is The Mentalist will continue into its seventh season. The drama has struggled to pick up the ratings on Sunday nights but it oozes class and CBS is willing to stand by the show.

It wasn't such good news for Robin Williams' freshman comedy The Crazy Ones, which was axed from Thursday nights. The show - also starring Sarah Michelle Gellar - was considered the comedy with the most chance of returning owing to its big name stars, but CBS executives have been ruthless and decided to cut the wage bill.

The verdict follows the networks' decision to order several new shows, including a NCIS spin-off and two new comedies including a reboot of The Odd Couple with Matthew Perry. The former FRIENDS actor doesn't have a great recent record with scripted comedy, though CBS are willing to gamble on the accomplished star. Despite report in the media, the How I Met Your Mother spin-off has not been picked up, though it could yet be ordered.

The Mentalist, created by Bruno Heller,  follows former "psychic" Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) who is a consultant on the California Bureau of Investigation, using his highly developed observational skills he previously employed to read people's minds.

In 2010, Baker received a nomination for Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Television Series Drama.

It's a well done show that features two leads with great chemistry. It has a worldwide following and has received multiple international awards. With the two leads finally coming together, they are poised to join the ranks of the great crime solving couples that have come before, Nick and Nora Charles, Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, The McMillans and The Harts... If the writers can resist continuing the soap opera twists that are the pitfall of blossoming romance on shows now. They are a beautiful pair of damaged people who have found one another and are fantastic at solving crimes irreverently; his flair and sense of showmanship wonderfully complimented by her heart, bravery and practicality. Another season of them working and being together is happily welcomed.

I AM SOOOO HAPPY THAT THE MENTALIST HAS BEEN RENEWED ANOTHER SEASON! IT IS JUST TOO GOOD AND UNIQUE A SHOW WITH A NEW EARTH-SHAKING PLOT EVERY WEEK. WITH OR WITHOUT RED JOHN I REALLY HOPE THE WHOLE CAST COMES BACK ALSO, HOWEVER, I DO PRAY THAT CHO IS GIVEN MORE TIME AND A GREAT LOVE STORY. HE HAS THE BEST DRY SENSE OF HUMOR, AND HIS DEADPAN STARES ARE JUST A RIOT. WHETHER HE MEANS THEM TO BE SERIOUS OR NOT. AND, OF COURSE, I REALLY HOPE JANE AND LISBON GET TOGETHER. SEEMED AS THOUGH THE SHOW ALWAYS HINTED THAT LISBON WAS IN LOVE WITH JANE, AND YOU ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS FOND OF HER UNTIL LAST WEEKS SHOW, WHEN HE WAS FIGHTING BACK THE TEARS WHEN LISBON SAID SHE WAS THINKING OF GOING BACK TO DC WITH PIKE FOR GOOD. SIMON IS SUCH A CONVINCING AND GREAT ACTOR, THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WAS SO DEVASTATING I STARTED TO CRY FOR HIM. THEY REALLY BELONG TO EACH OTHER. PLEASE BRUNO, DON'T LET US DOWN! lOVE YOU ALL FOREVER!
