The long-awaited story-based downloadable content for The Last of Us finally has a trailer, giving us a – admittedly small – teaser. It’s been a big day for Naughty Dog; the popular developer has also announced a PS4 version of their flagship franchise, Uncharted. We don’t get to see much of Left Behind; what we do know is that it’s a prequel, and that Ellie and her friend Riley are a military boarding school in the Boston quarantine zone.

The Last of Us

The story takes place before Ellie (voiced by Ashley Johnson) meets Joel, but it’s unclear as to whether Riley will be a playable character. Released in 2014, the DLC marks the arrival of the new generation of console in the PS4 while reasserting the PS3’s relevance in the gaming market. The Last of Us was a phenomenal success for the PlayStation 3, hurtling towards the top of many game of the year lists within days of its release.

“In just a few short months since the release of The Last of Us, you have made it clear that Ellie has become one of your favorite characters in games. Today, we’re excited to confirm that you play as Ellie throughout the entirety of Left Behind,” read a post on the PlayStation Blog.

“Joining Ellie on this new adventure is Riley, her best friend and also a mentor of sorts at the military boarding school. Just as The Last of Us focused on the bond between Ellie and Joel, Left Behind explores the bond between Ellie and Riley through a series of events that will forever change both of their lives.”
