'The Fault In Our Stars' Bench In Amsterdam Disappears, Fans Left Confused

The Amsterdam bench that was used in The Fault in Our Stars has mysteriously gone missing. Even representatives from the Dutch city aren't quite sure where the wooden seat upon which Shailene Woodley's Hazel and Ansel Elgort's Augustus sit and share an intimate moment has disappeared to.

Due to the movie's success, fans have already created their own maps of the city pinpointing key locations from filming but will have to cut their tours short now that the the green bench that used to sit on the Leidsdegracht has gone.

"It's a bit embarrassing, because we do keep good track of them, but it's gone all right," said city spokesman Stephan van der Hoek, via THR. He said that film fans visiting the city had begun to ask where the bench was.

He added that his best guess is that neighbors chipped in to buy the flowerpot that now replaces the bench but the bench itself was probably taken away intentionally, as there are no marks on the ground suggesting it was violently wrenched from its spot.

More: Ansel Elgort feared upsetting Shailene Woodley on the 'TFIOS' set.

"Keep your eyes on eBay," he quipped, suggesting that a movie memorabilia collector could have orchestrated a covert removal of the city's fleeting landmark. Although Amsterdam is a key location in the teen romance adaptation, many of the scenes that seem authentically Dutch were in fact filmed on a studio set.

The young couple are shown visiting the Anne Frank House museum and kissing in the attic but in real life visitors are not allowed to visit that room of the building. We do get visitors asking about the film," said museum spokeswoman Annemarie Bekker.

Made with a budget of $12 million, the movie excelled at the box office upon its release and has currently grossed $194 million.

More: Shailene Woodley goes incognito at 'TFIOS' screening.
