The Five Most Shocking TV Deaths

The shocking death of Allison Argent in last night’s Teen Wolf has got us thinking, are none of our beloved characters safe? If we look back at some of our favourite shows it turns out that no, they aren’t!

Dan Conner, Roseanne

You’d think if Dan Conner could put up with Roseanne he’d be able to handle anything. However, in the Season 9 finale it’s revealed that Dan had died the previous season and the final episodes of the show were all a figment of Roseanne’s imagination. Dan supposedly suffered a fatal heart attack at his daughter Darlene’s wedding and Roseanne had invented the final season to deal with her grief.

Joyce Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Just as Buffy’s mom begins to recover from her brain tumour...BAM! Aneurysm and dead. We definitely weren’t expecting this one, not in a show where vampires and an array of other ghoulish monsters threaten humanity on a daily basis.

Lori Grimes, The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead has never shied away from huge plot twists and regular character offings, but we were surprised that after all she’d been through Lori would get a break. But, no! Sacrificing herself to save her baby before getting shot in the head by her son was Lori’s fate. Just your everyday death in the post-apocalyptic world.

Eddard Stark, Game of Thrones

Ned’s death in Game of Thrones was a total game changer to those of us who hadn’t already read all of the books. It turns out it would be the first of many and definitely set the mood for the show. The last season ended with the blood bath that was the Red Wedding, we’ll just have to wait and see who gets offed in the upcoming season due to start on April 6th. No one with an investment in the Iron Throne is safe...

Maude Flanders, The Simpsons

We still can’t believe Maude Flaunders diddly-died back in 2000. Homer took off his shirt at the raceway and painted a target on his chest in the hope that cheerleaders will throw free t-shirts at him. They did, accidentally knocking Maude off the bleachers and into the car park. Unlike Homer who can bounce down cliffs on his head, Maude dies there and then. Reverend Lovejoy eulogizes Ned’s first wife, “She didn’t grab our attention with memorable catchphrases, or comical accents. But, whether you noticed her or not, Maude was always there.”

Who do you think suffered the most shocking TV deaths? With the upcoming Season 4 of Game of Thrones due to start, it seems like we have a few more to go.
