Season 2's "characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them," said the show's creator Nic Pizzolatto.
The 2014 TCA awards nominations were announced yesterday (Tuesday, May 27) with True Detective picking up nods for Outstanding new program, outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries and specials, Program of the year and Individual achievement in drama for Matthew Mcconaughey.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have stirring performances in season 1 of HBO's True Detective
HBO’s done-in-one-season anthology series wowed the critics and became one of the most talked about TV events of the past year; Nic Pizzolatto’s deep, intense writing style fleshed out two brilliant characters in Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart while simultaneously guiding the audience through an intertwining, non-linear crime investigation.

While the nomination for McConaughey’s individual efforts doesn’t surprise at all, the show’s exclusion from the outstanding achievement in drama category is irksome. If True Detective wasn’t, and isn’t, a drama, then it’s difficult to surmise exactly what it was. Lest we forget McConaughey’s Rustin Cohle is amongst the favourites in the individual achievement in drama category.

But one thing is certain: McConaughey won’t get another nomination for True Detective from the TCAs; Pizollatto is currently working on season 2 and gave away some long overdue morsels in an interview with the To The Best of Our Knowledge podcast.
“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one," Pizzolatto said. "The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them," he continued.
Season 1 of True Detective saw Rustin and Marty unravel a terrifying peadophile ring
Jessica Chastain was heavily rumored to have been cast for season 2, and fit perfectly into Pizzollato’s “hard women” proclamation, but she later confirmed that those rumors were exactly that. “I’m a big fan of the series,” Chastain said. “I’m going to watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first.”
