Stephen Collins and Faye Grant are officially divorced. The former 7th Heaven actor and his wife of almost thirty years have formally separated and their assets evenly divided. Collins filed for divorce from Grant in 2012 and the past few years have shown their separation proceedings to be one of the most unpleasant divorce cases in recent celebrity history.

The former couple signed the final paperwork on Friday 23rd January. Their lawyers have spent four days, according to TMZ, negotiating a settlement in order to avoid going to court for what would presumably have been a messy and very public trial. Their joint assets have been evenly divided and the entertainment website estimates they will receive around $7 million each. Their houses in California will have to be sold and neither will receive spousal support, according to E!

Collins, the US actor best known for his role as Eric Camden on the television series 7th Heaven, has been under public scrutiny since allegations of child molestation came to light in October 2014. Collins was recorded seemingly admitting to exposing himself to three minors and the New York City Police Department were investigating the allegations. Following much media speculation, Collins admitted to having some contact with three minors on different occasions from the 1970s to 1990s. "The publication of the recording has resulted in assumptions and innuendos about what I did that go far beyond what actually occurred," Collins told People in December.

All copies of the recording, which was widely distributed amongst media outlets, still in Grant's possession must be destroyed. The original copy must be presented to Collins' lawyer and will not be released for a decade unless subpoenaed.
