Star Wars Episode VII is ready to go.
Star Wars Episode VII has a completed script. It could be great, it could be absolutely terrible, but it's done. Director Jj Abrams shared the good news on Sunday (September 19, 2013), telling Entertainment Weekly, "We're working really hard and we've got our script and we're in deep prep. Full steam ahead."
JJ Abrams Says The Star Wars Episode VII Script Is Complete
The news comes just a couple of months after the Oscar-winning Toy Story screenwriter Michael Arndt was taken off the project and replaced by Lawrence Kasdan - who worked on Episodes V and VI - and Abrams himself.
The rumor mill for the movie continues to turn, with Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons the latest actor to be linked with a starring role. He played villain Todd Alquist in AMC's acclaimed meth drama and although Abrams concedes that the 25-year-old is "one of the actors that we've talked about," he claimed reports of his casting is simply "a lot of noise."
"...it's not often that I read about actors that I'm going to be meeting," he explained, "I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, 'Oh, I read that I was going to see you!'"
Abrams - who was the controversial choice of director for Episode VII given he has helmed the last two Star Trek movies - also took the opportunity to confirm he will shoot the movie on film and not IMAX.
Lawrence Kasdan Was Drafted In To Work on the Star Wars VII Script
"In the right situation I would," he said of the film format, "The problem with IMAX is it's a very loud camera. It's a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera. You can't really do intimate scenes with it. It's slow, they break down often. Having said that, they're working on digital versions of these and so there may be a version one day . but we're going to be shooting [Episode VII] on film."
Star Wars Episode VII is set for release on December 18, 2015. Original stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher continue to be linked with a return to the franchise.
