Shailene Woodley Slams 'Twilight' Franchise For "Toxic Relationship"
The 22 year-old actress does not approve of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen's relationship in the 'Twilight' film series.
Shailene Woodley doesn't seem to share the same view as the majority of young females her age, she isn't a 'Twilight' fan.
The 22 year-old actress is in the media's microscope this month due to her next film 'Divergent', an adaptation of Veronica Roth's novel, hitting theatres in the upcoming weeks.
Woodley will join a group of female stars in Hollywood who have signed onto to star in film franchises that are based on best-selling novels, depicting young women.
Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart or most well-known for this career path as they each have had starring roles in the adaptations, 'The Hunger Gams' and 'Twilight'.
In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, Woodley admitted to seeking advice from Lawrence, on if she should take the 'Divergent' role.
"I asked Jennifer Lawrence, 'Are you happy with your choice to take on The Hunger Games?' And she said she wouldn't change it for the world," she revealed. "She told me, 'There are some things-don't make a sex tape, don't do drugs, don't do things in public-that you wouldn't want other people judging you for. But this is the best decision you'll ever make.'"
However, the 'Descendants' actress doesn't seem to share the same understanding with Stewart's vampire film series.
"Twilight, I'm sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship," Woodley stated, referring to the on-screen relationship between Stewart's and Robert Pattinson's characters. "She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she's going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve."
Shailene is very familiar with relationships as she has played roles in several intense teen love stories in several films lately, like 'The Spectacular Now' and 'The Fault In Our Stars.'
But off screen the young star doesn't seem to have the same luck, Woodley told the mag that she "doesn't have time" for relationships and hasn't "had a boyfriend in almost fives," but this doesn't mean her life is without lust.
Woodley did imply that she had hooked up with one of her co-stars after filming had concluded, "Well, that might have happened on something . . ." she admitted while laughing.
