Singer Selena Gomez showed the world just how far away she'd travelled from being a Disney Channel princess by performing the inaugural concert of her 'Stars Dance' tour in Vancouver, Canada. However, the 21 year-old had revealed how nervous she was to be taking to the stage in front of thousands of fans and remember her lyrics as well as those complicated dance moves.

Speaking to MTV in the run up to the show, Gomez said "once the first two songs are out of my system, I feel a little bit better, and then I'm able to let loose." That's exactly what Selena did, coming out on stage to tonnes of screaming fans to perform a track from each of her albums, Bang Bang Bang and Round & Round. During the show, she played plenty of her own songs, such as the fan-favourite 'Love You Like A Love Song,' but also covered tracks from Rihanna, Iggy Azalea and Lorde.

The Spy Kids actress not only gave a genre-spanning performance, with pop, rap, and R&B-influenced tunes all on the evening's menu but also showed she had the moves of a true pop idol, never setting a foot wrong. Having reportedly rehearsed for eight hours a day prior to her first show, she told MTV that she'd been under extra pressure to get her routines polished to perfection because two of her dancers were also her close friends: "And two of my best friends are actually on that stage with me that are dancers and have been dancing for years so I want to keep up with them and that's been something that's been challenging."

The music may have taken centre stage in the evening of spectacular song, dance and light but it was Selena's fabulous outfits that made a stunning focal point. She effortlessly swapped from glittering gold flapper dresses, to white harem pants and trainers, to daring purple feather dresses and a show-stopping floor-length black gown.

The night took it down a notch when Selena disappeared from the stage to get changed and a video montage of her relationship with Justin Bieber overlaid with headlines and media commentating. She then appeared to sing 'Love Will Remember'; a song clearly commemorating her highly publicised romance with Justin. The crowd began to dance again for her final song, and latest single 'Come and Get It,' with confetti showering down upon her screaming fans and, as the evening's party died down, Selena was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
