Gomez wants to take some time to relax and recover.
Selena Gomez has cancelled the Australian leg of her Stars Dance tour, the singer’s reps have announced. MTV broke the news that after five months on tour, the 21-year-old singer was ready to take a breather.
Selena toured non stop between August and November.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," the "Come and Get It" singer said in a statement. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
The Stars Dance tour kicked off in August with a show in Vancouver and has since included 55 dates in totall across Europe, Asia and North America. The last leg of the tour, which was originally intended to span eight shows in Asia and five in Australia, will begin in January. The shows in Japan, China, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore are still happening, but Australian fans will unfortunately have to wait for the next tour to see the former Disney starlet live. Before embarking on the tour, Gomez explained that she wanted Stars Dance to be a sort of back-to-basics pop endeavor, focusing on the dance routines and performers instead of elaborate stage and lighting design.
The last leg of the tour is set to start in January.
“It’s going to be a bigger show. I’m excited, Gomez said back then in a Ryan Seacrest interview. “I’ve been dancing a lot and I just want to entertain people and I’m super stoked.”
Selena further added: “I kind of missed shows when it used to just be about the dancing and the performing as opposed to how big and elaborate the stage is so I kind of want to get back to that. My favorites were Britney Spears and Janet Jackson so I kind of want it to be a bit more dancing and make it about entertainment and about the show and the songs as opposed to how big the stage and effects are.”
Gomez gave no further explanation for the cancelled shows.
