'Harry Potter' Star Rupert Grint Set For Broadway Debut In 'It's Only A Play'

Another star from the 'Harry Potter' film franchise is heading for a New York City stage.

Rupert Grint, known for playing Ron Weasley, is set to make his Broadway debut in Terrence McNally's comedy 'It's Only a Play,' Entertainment Weekly reports.

The 25 year-old actor joins an ensemble cast that includes Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Stockard Channing, Megan Mullally, F. Murrary Abraham and Micah Stock.

Jack O'Brien is set to direct the stage production, which will only be open for 17 weeks at Broadway's Schoenfeld Theatre, premiering on October 9th.

Grint will play Frank Finger, a talented director of a new play by a very apprehensive writer (Broderick), who is nervously waiting for the critics' reviews on opening night.

This is when the comedy will take place, and until opening night is over, the writer stays with "his TV star best friend (Lane), his producer (Mullally), the show's leading lady (Channing), an infamous critic (Abraham), and a fresh-faced coat check attendant (Stock)."

'It's Only A Play' first debuted in New York back in 1986 at the Manhattan Theatre Club, but for the 2014 rebooted version McNally has revised the whole thing.

For his portrayal, Grint was prized at this year's WhatsOnStage Awards with the Newcomer of the Year honour. At the same ceremony Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert's 'Harry Potter' co-star, was named Best Actor in a Play for his role in 'The Cripple of Inishmaan,' which is also showing on Broadway, but will not overlap with Grint as he finishes next month.
