Will Robin Williams Be Immortalised In A Zelda Game? Maybe

Robin Williams’ love for videogames has been well documented since the popular actor was found dead last week at his home near San Francisco after committing suicide at the age of 63.

Robin WilliamsRobin Williams had suffered from depression

Williams, who appeared in a string of adverts for Nintendo alongside his daughter Zelda - named after the titular princess in the Legend of Zelda games - expressed a particular fondness for Link’s adventures. And this had lead for calls for him to be remembered in a future Zelda game, to wit Nintendo released a statement.

Last week, the company said: "Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo. We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honour him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”

If you’ve seen the Robin + Zelda ads for the Zelda games, then you’ll see why that particular message is more of a yes than a no. They were hugely successful, and managed to portray a genuine love for the franchise rather than a cynical marketing ploy. We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a Williams-esque character immortalised in a future title, perhaps even the next quasi open-world Zelda game set for the Wii-U.

But Zelda isn’t the only game Williams might find himself included in following his untimely death; Blizzard have already all-but confirmed their intentions on an NPC character/memorial in their hugely popular online game, World of Warcraft. “Thank you. You gave us so much joy in our lives, and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world. We’ll see you in-game,” they Tweeted.
