Ever since Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke performed at the 2013 MTV VMA’s there has been a huge backlash against the two artists.

Cyrus has rode the momentum of the criticism to create a media frenzy but Thicke has since distanced himself from the infamous performance.

According to Us Weekly, in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey the ‘Blurred Lines’ singer said, “People ask me if I twerk, and I'm like, Listen, I'm the twerkee. I don't twerk.”

Robin is referring to the moment where the 20 year-old singer bent over and started grinding on his groin in a very proactive manner.

But the 36 year-old insists the backlash hasn’t affected him, “This is funny to me, it's silly,” and even when Winfrey asked “You don't think of it as sexual?” Thicke answered, “Well, I was onstage, [so] I didn't see it.”

Further adding, “So to me, I'm walking out toward Miley, I'm not thinking sex, I'm thinking fun. …I'm singing my butt off. I'm singing and I'm looking at the sky and I'm singing and I'm not really paying attention to all that. That's on her.”

The father to a three year-old son, Julian, and husband to actress Paul Patton, wanted to give a performance that would stir up some chatter and even though he didn’t do any inappropriate or suggestive actions, the performance certainly did give people something to talk about.

In the November issue of Vanity Fair Thick explained, “I spent my whole career playing it safe, being a gentleman, never doing anything controversial, I didn't see [the VMA performance] because I was onstage singing my ass off.”

He further added, “They told me [beforehand] that Miley's going to take her clothes off and dance around and she might bend over… I just said, 'I don't care, let's entertain the people,’ let's give them something they're not ready for, let's make them talk.”

The interview will be aired on ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ on October 13th.
