Robin Thicke made some choices at the BET award and, well, some of it worked, at least. Thicke exposed his vulnerable side, yet again, during his time onstage. Thicke performed his ballad  Forever Love, accompanying himself on the piano. More importantly, before the teary-eyed performance,  he offered yet another dedication to estranged wife Paula Patton.

Robin Thicke seems to have missed the memo.

"Good evening, my name is Robin Thicke, I’d like to dedicate this song to my wife, and say, 'I miss you, and I’m sorry.' This is called 'Forever Love,'" he called out from the stage of the Nokia Theater on Sunday.

When he finally played the tune, it was no less tearful than the introduction. Thicke looked visibly distraught through his performance, pausing several times to wipe his nose after a snivel.

“If you ever doubt it now, baby, I will be there picking you up," he sang. "You can lean on me any time, baby, for anything you want and need. Yeah, see, I don’t need any reason, memory, or a season. Every day I will believe that you and I are meant to be. You’re my forever love.”

The song, in case you’re wondering, is part of Thicke’s album Paula.

No news on whether Paula Patton was moved, but BET host Chris Rock certainly wasn’t. lightened the mood with a quip about the singer's endless apology performances. "He’s singing like she don’t know him," the comedian joked. "I miss the other song, the one that sounded like Marvin Gaye.”

Paula Patton
Patton split from Thicke earlier in the year, following the controversy around his Blurred Lines video, which featured three nude models.
