What's In Store for Robert Pattinson in 2014? The Key Movies

2013 wasn't a great year for Robert Pattinson. We don't need to dig up the whole Kristen Stewart thing again even though they apparently had secret meetings, but the fact that he didn't release a single movie spoke volumes about where the British actor was. However, once he dusted himself down and got things back on track, Pattinson began reading scripts again and chose a couple of interesting projects that will see the light of day this year.

Robert PattinsonRobert Pattinson Shooting 'Maps to the Stars'

The first of which is David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars, Pattinson's second outing with the legendary director following the relative success of Cosmospolis. Their latest collaboration is billed as a "complex look at Hollywood and what it reveals about Western culture." Check out our pictures from the set of Maps to the Stars.

Cronenberg was bold enough to direct Bruce Wagner's modern day ghost story script, which was reportedly too weird and risky that nobody in Hollywood would touch it. It's apparently comparable to Brett Easton Ellis 1998 novel Glamorama - a sort of Stephen King-style ghost story novel that satirized celebrity culture and consumerism.

He brought Pattinson on-board, as well as Julianne Moore, John Cusack and Mia Wasikowska.

Viggo Mortenson was originally attached to the project with Pattinson, though scheduling conflicts prevented him from staying committed. Cusack appears to have filled the role that Mortenson vacated, though one thing's for sure - Pattinson has been loyal to Cronenberg's project. We don't have a release date for this one yet, though it should be followed with interest.

Robert PattinsonRobert Pattinson Will Also Star in 'The Rover'

The second of Pattinson's movies for 2014 is the equally intriguing The Rover - an Australian western by David Michod by writer Joel Edgerton. It follows the story of a loner (Guy Pearce) who tracks the gang who stole his car from a desolate town in the Australian outback with the forced assistance of a wounded guy named Reynolds (Pattinson) left behind in the wake of the theft.

A24 acquired the movie in mid-2013, saying, "David Michôd is a visionary filmmaker and we are thrilled to work with him to bring THE ROVER to US audiences. The movie will undoubtedly confirm his singular voice and distinctive gift for creating arresting visuals and indelible characters."

The film was shot last spring on location in the deserts of South Australia, and completed post-production in Sydney. Again, no release date on this one but we're assured it'll be here in 2014.
