Kate will be spending the three day trip in New York whilst William will be spending one day of the three days in Washington D.C. in order to attend a conference. The couple will be in the US from 7th - 9th December on an official visit, according to a press release issued on the couple's website

In New York the couple will take in a number of the city's sights including the September 11th memorial, a basketball game and a visit to a youth development project.

William is visiting Washington D.C. in order to attend a conference about anti-corruption and implementing a zero tolerance policy for trafficking animal parts across borders. Upon his return to New York the Prince will attend a reception and meet with officials from wildlife and conservation organisations.

Kate, who is pregnant with their second child, will remain in New York and visit a child development centre along with the Mayor's wife, Chirlane McCray. Later that day Kate will attend a lunch celebrating the British arts community in New York.

McCray's husband, Bill de Blasio, is certainly excited about the Royal visit. Speaking to the NY Times, de Blasio said: "From everything I've seen, they seem like very good and charitable people. I'd enjoy meeting and see how we can work together."

The couple will round off their visit by attending a University of St. Andrews dinner held at the Metropolitan Museum. Both attended and met at the University which is celebrating its 600th Anniversary this year.

William and Kate are expecting their second child together, due in April next year. Their son George, now nearly 16 months old, will not be accompanying his parents on their official visit to New York.
