Prince Signs Major New Record Deal With Warner Bros

Prince has signed a major new record deal with music label Warner Bros Records. The deal comes nearly 20 years after the Purple Rain singer wrote ‘slave’ on his face in an act of protest against his contract with Warner Bros. Prince said at the time, “People think I’m a crazy fool for writing ‘slave’ on my face. But if I can’t do what I want to do, what am I? When you stop a man from dreaming, he becomes a slave. That’s where I was. I don’t own Prince’s music. If you don’t own your masters, your master owns you.”

Prince’s protest was followed by an even more extreme move, when he famously changed his name from Prince to a symbol. However, the new deal marks a 30th anniversary release of Purple Rain, as well as the singer regaining the rights to the master recordings made during his past contract with the label.
