Piers Morgan Finishes CNN Run With Anti-Gun Statement "I Want More Of You To Stay Alive"
The 48 year-old Brit signed off on the last episode of 'Piers Morgan Live' by blasting gun control in America: "More guns doesn't mean less crime."
It was announced last month that CNN and Piers Morgan will be ending their partnership in the near future.
That time has now come. On Friday (March 28th) the 48 year-old said goodbye to his show 'Piers Morgan Live' with a statement about something he has been very vocal about in the past several years, gun-control.
Morgan, who has been a supporter of stricter gun control laws, said, "more guns doesn't mean less crime," and told viewers that this wasn't an anti-America protest.
"I'm so pro-American, I want more of you to stay alive," he continued.
The Brit then thanked his "great team" of the network's staff and colleagues for their "tireless work."
"We won some. We lost some, but we gave it everything we had," Morgan added. "And I've loved every minute - well almost every minute."
Prior to the final episode airing, Piers took to Twitter to express his feelings on departing from CNN.
"I leave with no regrets, many great memories, and one heartfelt hope - that America sorts out its insane gun laws, #CNN" he tweeted.
Last month it was announced the show would be cancelled due to a large drop in the ratings since Morgan debuted in January 2011. It is thought that he couldn't connect properly with the American public.
Once this news had surfaced he released a statement that read, "It's been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings."
"Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it," he said. "That's run its course and Jeff and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me."
So it still seems like the door at CNN hasn't fully closed for the former 'Britain's Got Talent' judge.
