Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Won't Back Down Amidst Growing Support

In an outrageous tale of modern morality, Phil Robertson's comments have been defended by more big names in America who are keen to associate themselves with the controversial reality television star. Last week, GQ Magazine released an interview with the Duck Dynasty patriarch in which he aired some rather homophobic and racist views. Since Robertson's words have been published, many have risen up in an angry tide to criticise the duck hunter leading to network A&E suspending the 67 year-old from the show.

However, an alarming number of big name politicians and religious campaigners have emerged from the fray to lend their support. Though Robertson issued what is effectively an apology, saying in a statement: "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other," the star has refused to retract his incendiary remarks.

Speaking at a bible study group, Robertson defiantly announced "I will not give or back off from my path," adding "Common sense says we are not going to procreate the human race unless we have a man and a woman. From the beginning Jesus said, 'It is a man and a woman.' Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason."

Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana, issued a statement to attempt to dampen the fury directed at Robertson: "Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana," he said. "The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with."

What's more, the former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, and her daughter Bristol have both separately sprung to Robertson's defence. On Facebook Sarah posted a photograph of herself with the Duck Dynasty cast captioned: "Free speech is an endangered species," she wrote on Facebook. "Those 'intolerants' hatin' and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us."

Meanwhile Bristol slammed the gay community for hypocrisy: "I hate how the LGBT community says it's all about 'love' and 'equality,'" she added. "However, if you don't agree with their lifestyle, they spread the most hate. It is so hypocritical it makes my stomach turn," via NY Daily News.

Texan senator Ted Cruz wrote a Facebook paragraph condemning the suspension of the Duck Dynasty star: "If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson. Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job," Cruz wrote.

Whilst Charlie Sheen has warned Robertson that he was "now in the crosshairs of a MaSheen style media beat down," his sole vehement criticism is virtually enough to balance all of the pro-Phil support. "The only thing you should ever be in charge of building is a hole in the ground the exact size of your head. Perhaps your beard would fit as well if you plucked out the army of scabies and bull weevils sequestered deep in its sarcophagus of dander and weasel pelts," he tweeted furiously.

Though Robertson is "under hiatus from filming indefinitely," according to A&E, he will still appear in some pre-recorded episodes of the new season, which is set to air from January.
