Pharrell Williams's 'Happy' Gets More Love From UK Charts, And At Oscars

Pharrell Williams is sticking around in the charts, that much is clear. This week his single 'Happy' became the first song in 57 years to have three separate runs in the Official UK Chart. The uber-positive poppy anthem has now sold over 1 million copies in the UK, making Pharrell the second artist in the history of the charts to have three million-copy singles within the space of 12 months. The Beatles were the first, in case you were wondering.

Pharrell Williams, Oscars 2014
Pharrell has won all the things this past year - except an Oscar.

To be fair, the first two chart-toppers feature only guest appearances by Williams – he sang on Daft Punk’s 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke’s 'Blurred Lines' last year. He first climbed the chart summit with Happy back at the end of December, and then made another appearance in January. The only other artists in U.K. singles chart history to hit No. 1 three times with the same song were Frankie Laine with “I Believe,” in 1953, and Guy Mitchell with “Singing The Blues” in 1957, Billboard reports.

Pharrell Williams, Brit Awards
He's breaking records left and right.

Just as he’s charting in the UK – yet again – Pharrell was also making waves stateside, at the Oscars. Of course he was. Everyone was at the Oscars. He performed his “relentlessly happy” track with a troupe of high school dancers, as well as Jamie Foxx and his daughter onstage. He kept the mood up, despite losing out on the Best Original Song Oscar to Frozen’s Let It Go, written by Karen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and performed by Idina Menzel.

Besides being a song "'about Gru and being happy and this relentless mood that can’t be changed,'" Williams told Billboard of the track, "Happy" is also featured on Williams' latest album, "G I R L," which officially hits shelves March 3, though it has been available to stream via iTunes Radio for the past week. Cue “about time” fan reactions.
