The Oscars Selfie Gets a Simpsons Makeover. Look at Kevin Spacey.
Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar selfie, Simpsons style!
Ellen DeGeneres' Oscars selfie - which was actually taken by Bradley Cooper - has been the talk of the net all week, but it looks as though the famous snapshot is going to run and run. Memes are already cropping up, mainly of Kevin Spacey's head, but Simpsons creator Matt Groening has got in on the action too.
The ugly true story of that Oscar® selfie can finally be told! Let's break Twitter again. Look for Bart. pic.twitter.com/tdfr3Juhff— Homer J. Simpson (@HomerJSimpson) March 5, 2014
Groening posted "the ugly true story" behind the Oscars selfie on Twitter, which depicted the full A-list line-up as Simpsons characters - and they were all making sure Homer and Bart were not part of the photo.
The Simpsons team have made a pretty good job of recreating the stars, including photographer Bradley, Julia Roberts and 'House of Cards' star Kevin Spacey, whose gormless expression has been Simpsonized with aplomb. Jennifer Lawrence looks a little too Edna Krabapple and there's something creepy about Mr Pitt.
The original image, featuring Cooper, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and others, broke Twitter records on Sunday night when it was re-tweeted over 3.1 million times.
In honor of its publicity win, Samsung - who created the phone used for the selfie - vowed to donate $3.1 million to charities.
"While we were a sponsor of the Oscars and had an integration with ABC, we were delighted to see Ellen organically incorporate the device into the selfie moment that had everyone talking," the company said in a statement. "A great surprise for everyone, she captured something that nobody expected."
Ellen DeGeneres received mainly positive feedback for her second stint hosting the Oscars. 12 Years a Slave and Gravity were the big winners on the night, with Matthew McConaughey winning his first Oscar, for Best Actor in Dallas Buyers Club.
