We've got some serious heavyweight battles at the box-office this weekend, with the previously leaked Annie, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, and family-comedy Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb all vying for the Christmas top spot. Welcoming back Ben Stiller as Larry, Secret of the Tomb spans the whole globe and welcomes new characters embarking on an epic quest. But is it any good?

"More meh than manic, too reliant on wide shots of the ragtag Museum of Natural History cohorts striding down corridors," said Sara Stewart of the New York Post.

"Where the previous films felt frenetic and forced, this outing feels breezier, more enjoyable and less contrived," wrote Claudia Puig in a positive review for USA Today.

"The third installment, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb may be the best, and even the generally wound-too-tight Ben Stiller - once again playing a bemused Museum of Natural History guard - is easy to tolerate," said Stephanie Zacharek of the Village Voice.

"This third and supposedly final edition in the franchise is nothing more than an uncomfortably transparent contractual obligation," said Drew Hunt of Slant.

Ben Stiller took to Twitter this week - not to promote Night at the Museum 3, but to hit out at Sony's decision to pull The Interview after threats from North Korea.

"Really hard to believe this is the response to a threat to freedom of expression here in America," Stiller tweeted.

"Canceling "The Interview" seems like a pretty horrible precedent to set," added Scrubs star Zach Braff.

"While I understand the necessity to pull The Interview, it makes me furious. Free speech is the most admirable tenet in our constitution," said Dax Shepard.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits theaters on December 19, 2014.
