NBC Expects 'Parks & Recreation' Renewal, With Other Shows Still In Limbo

NBC have teased at what shows they are due to renew and which they are likely to drop from their schedules at the TCA press tour this weekend. Given how vague the network executives were at the press meeting, we can't exactly confirm anything, but what we can say is that Parks & Recreation will more than likely be getting a seventh season, everything else might not be so lucky.

“I’m going out on a limb: Parks and Recreation is going to have a 7th season,” was the word of the NBC's entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt at the TCA event, giving the closest thing to a solid confirmation regarding the future of a NBC show. The only other shows that held a similar kind of certainty were two popular comedies: Parenthood and Community.

“It’s a great show and doing well creatively,” the network rep said regarding Parenthood, adding that the executive for the show is "hopeful" that a new season will be green lit. Fans of Community will be pleased to know that the prospect of series creator Dan Harmon's promise of 'six seasons and a movie' worth of Community could still be on the cards, with the NBC chief saying there is "a strong possibility” the show will be renewed after the current season.

The fantasy series Grimm looks like it may enjoy another run, with executive joking that chances of another season are “not grim.”

Dracula
Things aren't looking great for Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Dracula

Other shows might not fair so well however and among the potential casualties the network did not sound optimistic when addressing Dracula, Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show. Little was said regarding Dracula, only that the network had hoped that ratings were a little better for season one, wich isn't a great sign. Greenblatt noted that, despite its representation at the Golden Globes this year, The Michael J. Fox Show still faces an “uphill battle” to win another season, and had even less to say about SStW.

Two other shows may see a new season in due time, but the network are currently trying to fix deals for a renewal of Celebrity Apprentice and Law & Order: SVU. The network is still trying to cast the next Celebrity Apprentice line-up, whilst their crime drama spin-off is expected to crossover into another series, Chicago P.D., following the Winter Olympics. Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are also expected to crossover more following the Olympic break.
