Morrissey was attacked by a fan in the middle of his song in San Jose on Wednesday night (May 7, 2014). The former Smiths man was performing 'One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell' from Years of Refusal when a group of fans broke through security to hug the singer, according to TMZ.com.

In other Morrissey news, a movie biopic by the Oscar nominated team behind short The Voorman Problem is currently in development. According to a statement on the Manchester-based production company's website, the movie will aim to tell the story of the singer's early life prior to his songwriting partnership with Johnny Marr and the rest of The Smiths.

"The film covers Morrissey's life pre-Smiths and is more of a portrait than a conventional biopic," director Mark Gill said, "It's as much a film for non-Morrissey fans as it is for die-hard devotees, but I can't deny that this is a love letter to Steven Patrick Morrissey and the dark satanic mills of Manchester."

It's currently unclear whether Morrissey has endorsed the movie, which is written by Mark Gill and William Thacker. Producer Orian Williams and casting director Shaheen Baig both worked on the Ian Curtis biopic Control
