MoogFest 2014

Named after America's main pioneer in the world of electronic music, Robert Moog, Moogfest is finally back after a brief sabbatical which saw them miss 2013 - to much disappointment from electronic lovers everywhere.

The much-adored Moog synthesizer is an incredible piece of equipment invented by a man who changed music for the better, so the fact that there's a weekend event named sharing the name is a thrilling prospect for musicians and fans alike. It began in 2004 and was eventually brought to Asheville, North Carolina in 2008 where it has stayed ever since. Not only have festival goers got a first-class music line-up to look forward to, Moogfest 2014 will also be hosting presentations during the day from both veteran music boffins to newcomers still experimenting with developing their sound. For all you synth-lovers out there, you will also be treated to various workshops which will no doubt give you an immersive experience into the heart of electronic music.

Moogfest begins on Wednesday (April 23rd) with Flying Lotus, El-P and 80s pop duo Pet Shop Boys at the top of everyone's agenda. Dan Deacon, Tiga, Black Dice and German legends Kraftwerk follow on Thursday, which is set to be one of the most exciting days of the whole five days, with daytime speakers including Deerhunter's Bradford Cox, Bob Moog's former collaborator David Borden and, of course, chart sensation Janelle Monae.

Friday brings more musical treats in the form of Dillon Francis, Lapalux, Riff Raff and Moderat for our nightly performance and LA producer Daedelus, DFA Records' Gavin Russom and Italian synth pioneer Giorgio Moroder. Saturday gets even wilder with performances from Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, Factory Floor, M.I.A and Zed's Dead and further talks from Google's digital media artist Aaron Koblin, New York poet Saul Williams and Philly DJ King Britt.

As for Sunday, things get a little calmer with High Klassified, Just Blaze, Nick Catchdubs, Salva, Sammy Bananas and Treasure Fingers making up the nighttime performers and some more exciting presentations from 'Futurama' writers David X Cohen and Jeff Westbrook, and British sci-fi author Simon Singh.

For such an independent festival seemingly aimed at only the most serious of music lovers, the line-up is remarkable; you'll find plenty of established musicians throughout the event, and for those new to the business, it's nothing short of an amazing opportunity.
