Did Anyone At The White House Enjoy 'The Monuments Men'? Obama?

Not content with glitzy premieres across the globe, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Bill Murray took their World War II black comedy/drama The Monuments Men to the White House to let the most powerful people in the free world take a look.

That’s right, President Obama and his cronies in Washington sat down, rolled out the popcorn and took in The Monuments Men with a big coke. The big coke and popcorn parts are spurious conjecture, but come on. I mean, come on. The film screened in the Family Theater, and participants had particular historical and social relevance – like the movie itself. This event was not open to the press.

But did Obama enjoy The Monuments Men? You certainly wouldn’t know about it if he didn’t, but we’re guessing he sided with the critics when he made his mind up about the Clooney-directed, produced, written and starring movie. See, The 44th President of The United States is used to watching some really critically acclaimed stuff, like True Detective and House of Cards.

He’s used to watching Kevin Spacey dismantle the political infrastructures that made him president; he’s used to watching Matthew McConaughey dismantle his mind.

Obama may have been nervous about seeing Damon again; the one-time supporter of Obama has publically denounced his work since 2008 saw him become the first black president of the United States.

“He broke up with me,” Damon told BET last year. “There are a lot of things that I really question, you know: the legality of the drone strikes, and these NSA revelations, are like, you know ... Jimmy Carter came out and said we don’t live in a democracy,” he added. “That’s, that’s a little, that’s a little intense when an ex-president says that. So, you know, he’s got some, some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor.”
