Monty Python Release Own Version Of England Football Anthem For 2014 World Cup

The recently united comedy group Monty Python are getting into the spirit of the World Cup, which kicks-off next week.

The comedians have reworked their classic "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" tune, and called it the unofficial World Cup 2014 anthem for England.

However, it isn't one of the most uplifting football songs that are going around.

Monty Python don't seem to have much hope for their home nation's chances in the hotly anticipated tournament as they have added an extra verse that sings England will "go and let you down".

The recent recording comes just a month ahead of their reunion stage performances, which will take place at London's O2 Arena, and it is already available for download at the iTunes store.

Since "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" was sung by Eric Idle in 1979's 'Life of Brian,' it has become a recognizable hit within pop culture, and most recently featured in the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.

"When you're in The World Cup, And all your hopes are up, And everybody wants their team to win," the reworked verse goes. "Then they go and let you down, And come slinking back to town, It's time for this daft song to begin."

With England's opening game against Italy only being 5 days away, could the comedy group's new track become a hit amongst the fans?

The previous official World Cup song for England has been billed as a version of Take That's 'Greatest Day,' but this has since been dropped by the FA.
