Surprised? Miley Cyrus's 'We Can't Stop' Is Her First Ever UK No.1
Miley Cyrus has finally conquered the UK singles chart.
Miley Cyrus has scored her first UK number one single with 'We Can't Stop,' which incidentally is her first Top 10 hit in the country.
The 20-year-old sold 128,000 copies of her new single last week to reach the top spot, ousting Swedish DJ Avicii and his hit track 'Wake Me Up'.
Miley had previously peaked in the UK singles chart at number three with See You Again in 2008 and at 11 in 2009 with The Climb and Party in the USA.
Tinie Tempah's new single 'Trampoline' went in at number three, while there was no movement for Lana Del Rey's Cedric Gervais remix of 'Summertime Sadness' which stayed at number four. Robin Thicke's summer hit 'Blurred Lines' dropped two places to number five in the first hint his grip on the top of the charts may be slipping.
Elsewhere on the UK chart, John Newman fell four places to six with 'Love Me Again,' while Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake rose four spots to seven with 'Holy Grail.' Calvin Harris's 'Thinking About You,' One Direction's 'Best Song Ever' and Icona Pop's 'I Love It' rounded out the top ten.
Other placings of note included Rudimental bouncing ten places to fourteen with 'Right Here' and Of Monsters and Men continuing an impressive chart run by rising fifteen places to nineteen with 'Little Talks'
'We Can't Stop' is the second single to be taken from Miley Cyrus's fourth studio album BANGERZ. The record, yet to be released, is being heavily promoted through various channels including a forthcoming performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
It is rumoured that a collaboration with Britney Spears appears on the album.
