Scraping The Barrel? Inventor of Foam Finger Comments on Miley Cyrus.
Miley Cyrus? Steve Chmelar hates you.
Just when you thought we, the media, couldn't find anyone else to quote for their take on the Miley Cyrus twerking debacle.
We tried everyone, the janitor at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, some guy who thinks he once saw Miley Cyrus doing her grocery shopping, a woman who was walking around Brooklyn at the time of the performance and felt compelled to comment on how it'd affected her. But now. Now people. We have the thoughts of the voice of reason. The only man qualified to comment on this. Steve Chmelar.
You know, Steve Chmelar. THE INVENTOR OF THE FOAM FINGER??!!! This guy built the first "number one" finger with paper mache in 1971, aged just 16, to support his high school basketball team.
Speaking to Fox Sports this week about Miley Cyrus's performance, in which she appeared to use the foam finger in a highly suggestive manner, Chmelar said, "[Miley] took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it."
Though clearly disappointed by how his product was used, he remained optimistic about the symbol's future, "Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive," he said.
Please excuse us as we go interview Robin Thicke's suit to ask how degraded it felt having Miley Cyrus twerking all over it.
