Miley Cyrus Discusses The Transformation From Disney Teen Star To The Bad Girl Of Pop-Music
2013 has seen Miley Cyrus forge a new identity after leaving the Disney teen idol image behind, stating : "When I was no longer employed by anyone, that's when I was like, 'O.K., I'm going to do my own thing.'"
Miley Cyrus has had one of the, if not the biggest, years of any other artist in the music industry.
The 21 year-old has shocked and mesmerised crowds with her new identity as a racy, daring and exciting pop-star.
In 2013 Cyrus has shed her image as a Disney squeaky-clean teen star to a young adult who has a wild side, but seems surprised at the backlash she has received.
"I went from people just thinking I was, like, a baby to people thinking I'm this, like, sex freak that really just pops molly and does lines all day," Cyrus told the New York Times in an interview to be published on Sunday (Dec 29th).
"It's like, 'Has anyone ever heard of rock 'n' roll?'" the "We Can't Stop" singer added. "There's a sex scene in pretty much every single movie, and they go, 'Well, that's a character.' Well, that's a character. I don't really dress as a teddy bear and, like, twerk on Robin Thicke, you know?"
The 'Wrecking Ball' singer caused outrage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards when she performed with Robin Thicke. Miley danced in a sexually suggestive manner as well as 'twerking' on the 'Blurred Lines' singer's crotch.
Now viewed as the bad girl, she doesn't have many friends in the industry because she feels they are "a little scared" to be associated with her.
"I don't have a bunch of celeb friends, because I feel like some of them are a little scared of the association," Cyrus said. "This is terrible. I was backstage with (the rising pop star) Ariana Grande. I'm like, 'Walk out with me right now and get this picture, and this will be the best thing that happens to you, because just you associating with me makes you a little less sweet.'"
Miley also admitted that after finishing with Disney she finally felt free and was able to be herself. She said,
"When I was no longer employed by anyone, that's when I was like, 'O.K., I'm going to do my own thing.' But I waited until I felt like I had respectfully finished out what I was supposed to do, you know?"
