Miley Cyrus's SNL Performance - Watch It Here [Video]
It was actually a fairly subdued affair from the headline-maker
As expected, Miley Cyrus’s performance on SNL addressed many of her recent controversies. She talked about Hannah Montana, twerking, that VMAs performance and treated (or subjected, depending on your viewpoint) the audience to couple of musical performances.
Cyrus donning some clothes - a rarity
“We’re not doing anything on Hannah Montana tonight but I can give you an update on what happened to her; she was murdered,” the 20-year-old before ruling out any twerking of any kind. “There will be no twerking tonight” she said. “I used to think it was cool but now that all the white people are doing it, it seems kind of lame” (Daily Mail)
“I don’t apologise for my VMAs performance. I got a lot of letters from angry mothers and turned on fathers," explained Cyrus, opening up on the event that kicked off an entire month of Miley mania. She twerked against Robin Thicke as they sang together on Blurred Lines – a song that has received its own share of criticism.
All this hysteria surrounding the former Disney star lead Sinead O’Conner to write an open letter to her, which was subsequently bounced back to her with added mockery from Cyrus, which lead to O’Connor accusing her of disrespecting the mentally ill.
The singer’s insistence on sexualising every part of her media life has even drawn Annie Lennox – another British vocal powerhouse and female icon – to speak out on the matter.
"I have to say that I'm disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos," Lennox wrote on her Facebook page. "You know the ones I'm talking about. It seems obvious that certain record companies are peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment.”
These kind of outfits have landed Cyrus with a few haters, and some lovers, too
