CBS has had a major shakeup of its programming by ordering 5 new dramas and 2 new comedies.

One of the new shows will see the return of Matthew Perry to the small screen in a remake of the 1970’s television series, ‘The Odd Couple.’

The 'Friends' star will portray the character Oscar Madison in the multi-camera comedy, which was first introduced as a Broadway play, before being adapted for TV.

Perry, along with Joe Keenan (Glee), are credited as writers of the script, as well as executive producers.

Starring alongside the 44 year-old will be his ’17 Again’ co-star Thomas Lennon, who will play the iconic character of Felix Unger.

CBS granted Perry a script commitment this past December (2013), and the network eventually confirmed that it had ordered a pilot of the show the following February.

The story follows two polar opposite roommates, Felix and Oscar.

Felix is a very clean-cut, uptight and responsible type of character, an, who works as a photographer at a portrait studio. However, due to his strict, and boring, way of living, his wife files for divorce and throws him out of their house. In need of a place to stay, he looks to his childhood friend Oscar for assistance.

But when they become roommates, Felix quickly realizes Oscar's way of living is untidy, messy and very unhealthy, which is the total opposite to him.

Their dynamic relationship, which was first portrayed in Neil Simon's Broadway play, was eventually made into a feature film (1968), before ending up as a TV series. The show, which ran from 1970-75, aired on ABC and starred Jack Klugman and Tony Randall.
