Matthew Mcconaughey's latest Lincoln ad is the best of the bunch. "I think that's ol Cyrus"
It reads like one of McConaughey's famous True Detective monologues. Imagine the scene, a long-haired, scruffy Rust Cohle sat around the table, fiddling with Lone Star beer cans, using a bull as a metaphor for....life, the universe...something.
"That's a big bull...I think that's ol' Cyrus"
"That's a big bull...I think that's ol' Cyrus. 1800 pounds - I can do whatever the heck I want. I can respect that. Take the long way out."
It is, of course, the new Lincoln Motors ad starring McConaughey - who is in true Rust mode. He proceeds to stare down the bull, which stands its ground in the middle of the road, before admitting defeat and "taking the long way out".
More: Colin Farrell set to be cast in 'True Detective' season 2
It's a drippingly cool advert - one of the best in recent years - and it's got director Nicolas Winding Refn's stylistic fingerprints all over it. It's one of three ads released this week that forms part of McConaughey's deal with Lincoln following the so-called McConnaissance since his starring role in the Lincoln Lawyer.
Matthew Mcconaughey in 'The Lincoln Lawyer'
Though we know the Oscar-winner won't be returning to True Detective, he does have a couple of projects in development. Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is in the can and will hit theaters in November - it's expected to be vying for most of the major awards - and he's currently shooting Gus Van Sant's drama Sea of Trees.
More: someone made a Pixar style of Matthew McConaughey in 'True Detective'
The movie co-staring Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe follows the story of a suicidal American who befriends a Japanese man lost in a forest near Mt Fuji, with the pair forced to search for a way out.
The Sea of Trees, also known as Aokigahara or the Suicide Forest, is a 14 sq mile forest in Japan. It's a popular tourist destination though its rocky, icy caverns had made it a suicide hotspot.
