Ahead of the Oscars, Dallas Buyers Club stars Matthew Mcconaughey and Jared Leto have held a laugh filled press conference in London. In an unusually relaxed atmosphere for such an event, the two stars swapped jokes and stories together, leading to some interesting revelations about one of the award seasons most acclaimed movies.

The first big revelation came from Jared Leto who revealed he hand’t even seen the movie yet!  The actor, who described himself as a control freak, said he’d recently seen a bit of the trailer by accident but hasn't seen the full film.

He confessed he might watch it at some point but explained that it would be hard for him because he wasn't involved in editorial decisions saying, “if I don't have any control over that process it would probably be excruciating for me to watch.” McConaughey, however, has seen the movie saying his initial reaction at seeing himself on screen as AIDS patient Ron Woodroof was, “Jesus McConaughey you look like a reptile,”. However the actor was then able to distance himself from the character and simply enjoy the movie.

Perhaps the most interesting story to come out of the conference was the story of how Jared Leto managed to get the part of the transgendered character Rayon. He told journalists he had a Skype audition with director Jean-Marc Vallée, where he preceded to put on lipstick and indulge in some webcam flirting. Leto joked that “a girls got to do what a girls got to do, baby” after saying he was given the role the very next day.

McConaughey also provided laughs by impersonating Vallée who called him after the Skype meeting with Leto and said “it was like he was feeling me up through the screen, it was very uncomfortable.” You can watch the press conference courtesy of HeyUGuys.

Leto also gave praise to McConaughey for his performance in the Wolf of Wall Street, another Best Picture Oscar Nominee. Leto said he’d just seen the movie and McConaughey was “so good” as Mark Hanna.

Dallas Buyers Club has received six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for McConaughey, Best Supporting Actor for Leto and Best Original Screenplay.
