The Hall H audience at Comic-Con were treated to an Interstellar surprise
In the first real Comic-Con surprise, Matthew McConaughey managed to spring up on stage and shock fans with his patented “Alright, alright alright,” before delivering some new information on Christopher Nolan’s new film, ‘Interstellar’.
So far, we’ve only been treated to cryptic trailers surrounding the sci-fi(?) epic, and the Nolan-McConaughey duo expanded on what we already know with a few valuable morsels, some of which we’d already inferred, like the fact the film surrounds space travel.

“To be an astronaut was the highest ambition,” explained Nolan, according to Variety. “The idea to keep exploring space farther and farther… it (fell) off greatly. We are in a period of incredible technological change, (but it’s about) what’s in your pocket, your living room. I like the idea that we are on the cusp of a brand new era and we are traveling outwards more.”
McConaughey gave us more information surrounding his character in the movie, before expanding upon the lore. “Cooper is a pilot, an engineer and a widowed pilot of two children where civilization is just sustaining. There’s food, clean water, but they don’t need any explorers, no new bright ideas. Then something happens and the dream of being a pilot agains knocks on his door.”

For Nolan, a lifelong connection to the genre predicates ‘Interstellar,’ which sees one of Hollywood’s most saught after directors combine with its current golden boy. "I've always been a huge fan of science fiction, I'd grown up being amazed by science fiction of the past, obviously Star Wars and 2001,” he explained.
"These are things that made an incredible impression on me. But more than that, I grew up in an era when to be an astronaut was the highest ambition of any child." McConaughey added that Interstellar is the "biggest and most ambitious film" Nolan has ever attempted.
