Wolf of Wall Street Shocks Academy Member; "Shame on You" They "Screamed"

Martin Scorsese has seen a lot of things during his illustrious career, and funnily enough, a screen writer accosting him with disdainful words at an official AMPAS members screening is one of them – now he has two similar anecdotes to wield at dinner parties.

Wolf of Wall Street

A Facebook post from actress Hope Holiday alluded the general feeling after Scorsese’s latest film was screened, and it wasn’t exactly positive. And while the critics loved The Wolf of Wall Street – with Leonardo DiCaprio filling the boots of the titular Wolf, Jordan Belfort – the AMPAS fraternity weren’t as impressed.

“[L]ast night was torture at the Academy,” read the post. “’The Wolf Of Wall Street’ – three hours of torture – same disgusting crap over and over again – after the film they had a discussion which a lot of us did not stay for – the elevator doors opened and Leonardo D. Martin S. and a few others got out then a screen writer ran over to them and started screaming – shame on you – disgusting –”.

There has been word from the Scorsese camp, but the only thing refuted is the word “screaming”. A Paramount rep confirmed that “a negative comment” was offered up. But Scorsese, diCaprio et al didn’t stop to respond; they were too busy getting to a post-screening Q&A with Scorsese, DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and writer Terrence Winter.

Holiday was asked by The Wrap for some more info on the bizarre outburst, to which she said it was “a shocker,” and “very awkward and embarrassing” for others waiting for the elevator. She refused to give up the screen writer’s name, but we hope the words ‘you’ll never work in Hollywood again’ were uttered by at least one person during the one-sided exchange at least once.

“It’s brutal,” Scorsese said of his film on Friday.
“I’ve seen it with audiences, and I think it plays. I don’t know if it will be to everyone’s taste – I don’t think it will. It’s not made for 14 year olds.”

Perhaps Holiday’s comments on the film shouldn’t be taken too seriously though; she slated “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and praised “White Christmas,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “As Good As it Gets” and “The Wizard of Oz.” She then said she “liked” David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” but found it “confusing.”

Inside Llewyn Davis, American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street have all garnered considerable praise from a wide range critics, and are all considered frontrunners for various Oscars nominations. Oh, and that other AMPAS outburst we mentioned; during a screening of Scorsese’s “Casino” in 1995, one man stood up during the film – right in the middle, in fact - and screamed, “Disgusting! Pornography! Crap!” at the screen.
