Mark Wahlberg Claims To Be The Most Successful White Rapper Turned Actor

Although it has been many years since the days Mark Wahlberg went by the name 'Marky Mark', the 42 year-old still remembers his transition from rapper to actor.

In 1991 'Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch' released their No.1 debut, commercially successful, single 'Good Vibrations' which was catapulted Wahlberg into new heights of fame.

The track was their lead song from their debut album, 'Music For The People', which reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It wasn't until 3 years later in 1994 that he would make his big screen debut in Danny DeVito's comedy 'Renaissance Man'.

However, his appearance in 'Basketball Diaries', alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, a year later is what led critics to take notice of his work.

Fast forward until 2013 and Wahlberg is one of the most successful Hollywood actors in recent year and in an interview with Global Grind TV he claimed to be the most successful white rapper turned actor.

"I'm the best white rapper-turned actor," Wahlberg said. "Eminem did a great job in 8 Mile, but he only made one movie so I definitely have that title."

The 'Pain & Gain' actor also give credit to fellow rappers/actors Will Smith and the late Tupac Shakur.

"Will [Smith] really does his thing and I think if Tupac was alive he would have been doing some amazing things in front of the camera," he said. "Obviously his life was cut way too short, I would have loved to seen him continue to grow as an actor and all that."

The interview was to promote Wahlberg's upcoming film 'Lone Survivor'. A survival story based on the memoirs of ex-navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. It follows the SEAL Tea 10 mission "Operation Red Wings," a failed mission that went ahead on June 28, 2005, to capture or kill a notorious Taliban leader during the War in Afghanistan.

Wahlberg plays Luttrell.

It will hit theatres on December 27th 2013.
