Is Mariah Carey The Modern Day Jessica Rabbit?
Carey's performance was the perfect way to unveil the new single.
The 2014 BET Awards, honoring Aretha Franklin, Motown founder Berry Gordy, the late Nelson Mandela and others for their achievements, were taped on February 8th at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C. The award show served as a platform for Mariah Carey to perform her new song “You’re Mine” for the first time.
It was the kind of dress that only Mariah and Jessica Rabbit could possibly pull off.
Like the diva she is, Mariah appeared onstage in a low-cut black dress, perched atop a grand piano. With a few spotlights and the song’s chill vibe, the low key performance had an intimate, club vibe to it. Before the show, Carey tweeted a picture of herself in her glamorous, figure hugging outfit, adding the caption: “At Rehearsals for the #BEThonors #GLambly”.
"You’re Mine" is the second single off Carey’s upcoming album The Art of Letting Go. A release date for the album is yet to be announced. The collection was scheduled for last July, but its release date was pushed back, so that Mariah could have enough time to perfect the songs. Carey is scheduled to appear on The View in America on Valentine's Day to promote 'Be Mine', which follows up previous singles "#Beautiful" and title track "The Art of Letting Go".
Some other acts from the night included Jennifer Hudson, and Janelle Monae. Some other honorees included American Express chairman/CEO Ken Chenault, visual artist Carrie Mae Weems, and artist/actor/entrepreneur Ice Cube.
The club themed performance worked perfectly with the song's mood.
