No Wonder Kids Are Terrified of 'Maleficent': Jolie Looks Terrifying [Trailer]
Watch Jolie be all scary in the 'Maleficent' trailer below.
Remember when Angelina Jolie was filming Maleficent and all the kids on set were scared of her? Well now we can kind of see why; the mum of six looks positively terrifying as the Disney witch, as you can see in the new trailer. Jolie plays the titular Maleficent; the witch from Sleeping Beauty in a film billed as ‘the unknown story’.
Angelina Jolie looks magnificent as Maleficent
Starring Elle Fanning as the young princess Aurora and Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville, the film is set for 2014.
Check out the plot synopsis from Disney: “A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone.
Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.”
It’s an interesting decision from Disney to make this movie though; evil witches aren’t usually the protagonist in what is, essentially, a kids movie. Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s point of view sounds like a dark story best told for adults.
2014 needs to be a big year for Disney as they recover from the nightmare that was The Lone Ranger. Things are looking good though, with Maleficent looking strong (be careful now, though) and Star Wars confirmed for a December 2015 release.
"We felt it was very important to get it right and we think we did. The nice thing about joining the Disney family is that we've all been fans since we've been kids...and as a mother there is something very nice knowing you can take your kids to a Disney film and you know it's got something good for them in it...it's not going to hurt them,” explained Jolie at the Disney D23 Expo 2013.
