Madonna Banned From US Cinema Chain For Texting During Film Premiere

Madonna is banned from the US Cinema chain, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, for texting during a movie on Tuesday night (8th Oct).

The pop icon was in attendance for the premiere of Steve McQueen's drama '12 years A Slave' at the New York Film Festival.

The cinema company was founded in Austin, Texas, and its CEO Time League tweeted on Friday, "Until she apologises to movie fans, Madonna is banned from watching movies @drafthouse."

The tweet was accompanied by a link to a Daily Mail story, reporting Madonna erupted on an audience member for calling her out about the mid-movie texting.

The 55 year-old didn't appreciate this and responded, "It's for business... enslaver!"

This was a very inappropriate comment to say at the time, as the film depicts the story of an African-American slave who worked on plantations in Louisiana for 12 years.

League who also branded Madonna as "unbearably rude" but later tweeted that the ban was just a joke and he wanted to address it because he felt it was an important issue.

The CEO also spoke to Entertainment Weekly and said the initial tweets were an "offhand joke, a spur of the moment 140 characters" and that it was "more of a means to get the issue out there, that it is rude to text during movies."

However, he also told the website "But now that it seems to have taken hold, sure, I'm going to enforce it," and stated he isn't joking this time, "Yeah, I'm serious, but I don't think it really affects her life that much."

He is correct in that it will probably not affect the 'Give Me All Your Luvin' singer but still, getting banned from a cinema because of texting is embarrassing for anyone, especially a pop-icon.

Madonna has yet to comment on the situation.
