Madonna has caused yet another stir on the photo sharing site Instagram.

The 55 year-old has received a backlash after posting a photo of her 13 year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, with a caption that included the N-word.

"No one messes with Dirty Soap!," the captioned read along with a snapshot of her son boxing. "Mama said knock you out! "disni--a."

Madonna quickly deleted the controversial words and re-captioned it with the more appropriate, "Ok let me start this again, #get off my d--k haters!"

Well the 'haters' must have got their voice heard as the 'Like A Virgin' singer issued an apology on Saturday (Jan 18th) and also posted a copy of it on Instagram for her followers to see.

I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N-word on Instagram," Madonna said in a statement. "It was not meant as a racial slur...I am not a racist."

"There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention...It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white."

Concluding, "I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me."

This is the second time in the young year that Madge has managed to cause controversy on the social media site, the first incident being on Jan 4th when she posted a photo of Rocco, as well as his friends, holding bottles of liquor.

The caption read, "The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014."

It didn't take long for Madonna to get wind of the public's negative reaction and she quickly responded in her next Instagram post on the following Sunday (Jan 5th).

The caption read, "No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don't start the year off with judgement!"
