Idris Elba says a one-off special of Luther is likely. Perhaps Christmas 2015?
Idris Elba says he is "desperately trying" to bring his most famous character, DI John Luther, back to the screen. The British actor called playing the brooding investigator "like therapy" and said it is likely that he will make a final one-off special for the BBC.
Idris Elba playing Luther
"I put my heart and soul into it," Elba told the Radio Times. "I love John Luther. I played John at a very dark time in my life. And I so love John because I get to exorcise; it's so cathartic, it's therapy"
"He's got so much going on, but he lives with it. He makes decisions and he does things that Idris Elba is not allowed to do."

Luther won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for Elba, and the actor said a follow-up the third season is getting closer.
"I am desperately trying to make that happen.I think we're gonna probably do one more incarnation on TV. But not a season - a one-off."
"There's a story idea but no script yet. But we're gunning to do it at the end of this year. There's a lot of pressure from everyone to make it, so we're gonna do it."
More: movie sequel will see Idris Elba continue Luther's story
The news comes after Deadline reports Luther is getting a U.S. remake at Fox. The show will be written and executive produced by the original series creator Neil Cross and Elba is on-board as executive producer. It is not yet known who will play the lead role.
The original show ran on BBC for three seasons and followed Luther as a genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't often save him from the violence of his own passions.
