Lily Allen has been drafted in to headline the Friday night at Latitude Festival after indie-rockers Two Door Cinema Club were forced to cancel. The band's lead singer Alex Timble was hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint after collapsing at Chicago airport.

"We are honoured that Lily Allen is able to step in at the last minute and would like to thank her for filling the headline slot. After her show-stopping performance at Glastonbury, Lily was a natural choice. The Latitude audience are in for something really spectacular," he added.

"[I'm] so sorry to hear about Alex from Two Door Cinema Club. However I am more than happy to step in," said Lily. "I've never been to Latitude but I hear it's fabulous, and I can't wait to get my heels on for some serious dancing action on Friday evening - so, so excited."

Allen is a pretty sensible choice for Latitude - a festival increasingly known for its relaxed, middle class vibe with poetry tents, comedy areas and an all-round air of Guardian-ness about it. The singer, who recently played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, has been busy promoting her new album Sheezus.

Damon Albarn and The Black Keys will also headline Lattude, with Haim, Editors, Kelis and Bombay Bicycle Club also playing.
