Larry Wilmore Named As Replacement For Stephen Colbert On Comedy Central

A replacement for the departing Stephen Colbert has finally been announced.

Comedian Larry Wilmore will fill the shoes of the 49 year-old, who is leaving to host the 'Late Show' in 2015, on Comedy Central.

Wilmore, who was billed as the 'Senior Black Correspondent' on the 'Daily Show,' will take over 'The Colbert Report' and rename it 'The Minority Report With Larry Wilmore', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 52 year-old comedian's new show, which will get the 11.30 p.m. half-hour slot, is set to debut in next January.

"We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better," said Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless on Friday (May 9th).

"He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera," he continued. "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore follows in the Comedy Central tradition - bringing new perspectives to the day's events and breaking ground in the world of late night television."

Wilmore, who will have to move to New York from Los Angeles to tape the show, also commented on how thrilled he is to have been appointed the opening slot.

"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," said Wilmore. "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I'm layering."

But the cross country move is not such a good idea, according to his former colleague John Stewart.

"While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan," Stewart remarked.

Last month CBS announced Colbert would replace Letterman once the legendary TV host steps down after 21 years at the 'Late-Show' once his current contract expires, which will be sometime in early 2015.
