Lamar Odom Charged With DUI Offence
The troubled NBA star has been charged for driving under the influence following his August arrest
Lamar Odom's troubles seem to be getting worse after the struggling basketball star was charged for driving under the influence of drink/drugs for an offence that took place on 30 August. A court date has been set for 27 September and if found guilty Lamar could face a maximum penalty of a suspended license and a alcohol education course.
Lamar has apparently been thrown out of the home he shares with wife Khloe Kardashian
TMZ first reported that Lamar had been charged for his offence from last month on Friday, 13 September, stating that the one charge of DUI brought against him is his first criminal offence. Because of this, it is likely that Lamar will only face a smaller charge and will be unlucky to get any jail time for the offence. The site went on to explain that these kind of cases usually end up as plea bargains, which may also result in a suspended sentence. His mostly likely punishment will be probation, a driving ban and an alcohol education course.
The incident that took place on 30 August began when police pulled Lamar over on the 101 Freeway for driving way under the speed limit. After failing a number of standard sobriety tests he was cuffed and hauled to jail, where he refused to give a blood or urine sample. In doing this, Lamar actually made things a little easier on himself because now police cannot determine whether he was driving under the influence of drink, drugs or both. The arresting officer at the time noted that it seemed as though he had been using both drink and drugs prior to his arrest. However in doing so he also guaranteed himself a driving ban.
His basketball career is in jeopardy as well as his marriage
Lamar has apparently been struggling with drugs since the last NBA season ended at the beginning of summer, with many worried that he has become dependant on crack cocaine. Although Lamar has continually denied that he has a drugs problem, his recent behaviour says otherwise. We'll provide more information on this story as it develops.
