#Ladz: Radio 1 'Regrets' Tweet About London Grammar's Hannah Reid

If for some reason you were still searching for that reason to stop listening to Radio 1, than the good people at the BBC have just handed it to you on a plate.

The station has apologised for a tweet asking listeners if they thought London Grammar front-woman Hannah Reid is "fit."

Officials at Radio 1 deleted the original message after it was retweeted hundreds of times and received a wave of criticism and ridicule.

The Breakfast show issued the tweet on Tuesday morning (September 10, 2013), saying, "We all think that the girl from @londongrammar is fit.Let us know if you agree . #ladz." The 'girl' that Radio 1 was referring to was Hannah Reid, the singer with the English indie pop trio signed to Metal & Dust Recordings.

"Awful!" replied Reverend & the Makers. "She has a name, btw. Also, what is wrong with you?" tweeted comics artist Jamie McKelvie.

The station quickly issued an apology, tweeting, "We really regret the tweet this morning about @londongrammar. We're aware its been RT'ed a lot & screengrabbed, but out of respect to Hannah, we have removed from our timeline . We got it wrong. We're sorry."

Unfortunately, the excuse that the tweet was supposed to be 'ironic' didn't go down too well either. "I think you're confusing [ironic] with 'creepy'," wrote @JennNiff.

"Then why did you retweet someone agreeing with your 'ironic' statement?" said @TechnicallyRon, who added, "F*ckwits."

London Grammar, who only formed last year after two of the members met at University in Nottingham, released their debut album If You Wait on Monday (September 9, 2013). It was the final date for eligibility into this year's Mercury Music Prize nominations and incidentally, London Grammar are the bookies' favourite to win the award.
