Why On Earth Did Kelly Clarkson's Mother Not Get A Wedding Invitation?
The singer eloped in the year's smallest celebrity wedding.
Pop star Kelly Clarkson has finally married her love, Brandon Blackstock, in a rustic Tennessee ceremony. "I'm officially Mrs. Blackstock :) We got married yesterday at Blackberry Farms in TN, the most beautiful place ever!" she captioned a romantic Instagram photo.
Clarkson Married & Decided Not To Invite Her Own Family.
When celebs say they want an intimate wedding, we've learned to take that pledge with a pinch of salt. Though intimate conjures up images of the Kill Bill wedding with sparse attendees and modest décor, 'intimate' for some celebs can mean they had to scale their guestlist down from 1,000 to 500.
Not Kelly Clarkson though: she obtained her wedding license and tied the knot within the same weekend in front of an audience that consisted of Blackstock's two 6 and 12 year-old daughters from a previous marriage, reports The Daily Mail. Clarkson's surprising decision to not invite her own family, or even her mother Jeanne Taylor, has not been met with the offended remarks you might expect.
Speaking to Celebuzz in the days following the wedding, Taylor revealed that she understood her daughter's decision and was not hurt at all. "She was so afraid we might be upset. But we were fine with it. I had known that she was under a lot of stress. And we just wanted her to be happy and not stressed out," Kelly's mother said. "I think the biggest thing for us to do was to allow her to do what she wanted to do," Taylor added.
Jeanne also mentioned that having a crowd there to watch Kelly and Brandon exchange vows may have been emotionally embarrassing for the American Idol winner: "She said she cried through the whole thing anyway. She's really emotional like that. She's now glad she didn't do it in front of a lot of people because then she'd be embarrassed."
Though the pair had planned a larger bash, they eventually decided that they wanted a smaller celebration in her break from busy touring and recording of her upcoming first Christmas album, Wrapped In Red.
Kelly spoke to E! News ahead of her wedding about her plans, saying "We had a wedding planned, like a huge one - and we still have a wedding planned, but we're not doing the big huge one. We're just gonna (sic) go off with the kids and go get married and it's just gonna be literally, seriously small."
With A Reported Guestlist Of 2, Kelly Wins The Prize For Smallest Celeb Wedding This Year.
The couple met in 2006 through Kelly's manager, Narvel Blackstock, who is also Brandon's father and after dating since 2011 were engaged by Christmas last year.
